Homework in Schools
Homework is something seamlessly attached to schools, classroom and primary and secondary education. Off and on, some of my friends have discussed the necessity of or the pros and cons of giving homework to children in primary and secondary schools.
To present my thoughts and my point of view, I thought id best to start with the definition and objectives of "homework".
A little history - How and when did it start -
In 1905, an Italian teacher named Roberto Nevilis invented the concept of “homework.” Originally, its purpose was to be used as a punishment for students who were lazy in class or for those who were disobedient or rude to their teacher. This practice became popular and became more frequently used around the world.
my opinion, there should be home work. It is good for the student to do something on their own to gain confidence about what they learned in the classroom.
In many cases, there could be additional help from parents or other adult guardians at home and that surely helps as a one on one help. In the classroom it is not one on one and some students need that one on one help.
Now there will be many students who do not have the right environment at home to go any homework. Of course may be no adults or parents to assust. The school system should provide additional educators after school hours to provide that additional “smaller group” assistance.
All said and done, removing home work is not a solution to any problem. If there are problems due to homework, it should be addressed and resolved rather that eliminate it.
I am not an educator but I have keen interest in students and education and this purely my opinion.
I look forward to hearing from more of us. Thanks
